The AR Zeta Chapter house receives $200,000 in improvements After many years it has finally happened, renovations are taking place on our house. As the spring semester came to a close the undergrads began moving out. For the first time in 13 years the AR Zeta chapter house would be empty. On May 15 the demolition began. First to go were all the interior doors, next the bathroom vanities were removed, along with the toilets and bathtubs. Days later, the carpeting was removed and the sheetrock repair work began. This was just the beginning of many improvements and changes taking place this summer. Before the undergraduate members return on August 1 many improvements will have been made including:
The improvements come on the heels of new heating and air conditioning that was installed last summer and new commercial grade front doors that were installed early in the spring. After this summer’s renovations almost $200,000 in improvements will have been made over the past year! As SigEp set the standard for Greek housing at UCA in 1989, in 2003 we are raising the bar even higher. In addition to the improvements at the house, Joseph Norsworthy has taken on the task of refurbishing the volleyball pit. Yes, Paul Stover, your lights and pole are finally going to be installed. Come join us on August 30 to celebrate the grand re-opening of the house. See inside for more information. |
President’s Letter Alumni and Friends, As the summer comes closer to the end, the Undergraduate Chapter looks forward to the new house and the upcoming school year. As President, I look forward to all of the great changes to the house and the chapter. The membership looks forward to the grand opening of the house this upcoming Labor Day weekend. I personally hope to see several new and old faces at the event. The University is changing rapidly as well. We have the first ever Little Rock Classic with UCA playing UABP at War Memorial Stadium on September 11th. The chapter will attend this event, and we welcome you to join us. Homecoming is November 1st, Founder’s Day. Events will be planned around the house before kickoff at 3:00p.m. Additional Homecoming 2003 events are planned through the UCA Alumni Association. The schedule can be found on-line. As the new school year begins, our chapter plans on working on our academics. With the help of the Alumni-Academic Challenge Program, we plan on increasing our all campus ranking drastically. As always, AR Zeta still dominates in campus involvement. This year we won the All-Greek Step Show. We were paired with the Delta Zeta Sorority and the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. We have members that are involved in several different campus organizations including Varsity Athletes, Student Orientation Staff Team Leaders and Members, 3 of 6 Greek Men of the Year finalists, Order of Omega Members, Student Government Association Members, and many more. I appreciate all of your help as alumni, and encourage you all to become more involved in the upcoming year. In Phi, Bart Shaw |

Alumni Academic Challenge New to the AR Zeta chapter this coming academic year is the AR Zeta Alumni Academic Challenge, a new plan for academic achievement. The chapter will be divided into teams with comparable GPA’s. Each team will have a captain and will work with an alumni volunteer. The team with the most improved GPA at the end of the semester will receive a scholarship of $1,500. Additionally, the individual member with the highest GPA will receive a scholarship and the individual member with the most improved GPA will receive a scholarship. To participate in the individual competition the member must have had at a 2.0 GPA in the previous semester. You may be asking yourself, "how can I participate in this great program"? For this program to work properly alumni involvement is necessary. At least 4 alumni will be needed to head up the teams, 7 would be ideal. If you are interested in heading up a team, please contact Gary Bunn at gobunn@hotmail.com or Gary Huff at 501-786-1150. A fund has been setup at the Educational Foundation to be used for the academic challenge. Contributions made to this fund are tax deductible. When sending your contribution to the SFE Educational Foundation, please specify that the funds are for the AR Zeta Academic Challenge. Alternatively you can forward your check, made out to the SFE Educational Foundation, to Gary Huff at 2207 N Arthur, Little Rock, AR 72207. The checks will then be forwarded to the Educational Foundation. Special thanks to Kreth Kohler for his $500 donation that established the fund. Results of Academic Challenge will be included in the Spring ’04 newsletter. |

Shaun Harms - #422 Just wanted to say hello to everyone. I have been in Rovaniemi, Finland for the last 8 months. Rovaniemi is on the artic circle and we have about 4 feet of snow! I am working on my International Project Management specialist degree here. At the end of March, I will be back in Arkansas to complete my MBA degree. I will graduate from both programs in August. After that who knows. Take care and I wish everyone the best. |
Justin Lewis - # 204 Just wanted to say hello and get my new email address to everyone. My family and I have been in Kansas City since November of last year and we are just now getting settled. We are only about 7.5 hours from Little Rock so keep me in mind if anyone decides to have a get together. I am currently working as a U.S. Postal Inspector and attached is a photo (Look on Picture Page at arzeta.com) of a search warrant conducted yesterday jointly with the FBI. Imagine trying to locate kiddie porn in that mess. We never actually saw the floor of the house. I miss the days of old and sure would like to hear from everyone. |
Chris McCook #151 Mitzi Denney and I have been married for 7.5 years and had our first son, Bailey Christopher, Sept 2, 2002. We have been in Magnolia for 5 years now and don't think we will be leaving any time soon. I work with a mentally handicapped 28 year old and work at a center for mentally handicapped adults, and Mitzi is the speech pathologist for the same company working with developmentally delayed children ages 3-5.
